Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate all trademark prosecution tasks for The LEGO Group in China and APAC, including, but not limited to supporting all registrations, oppositions, cancellation actions and any appeals.
  • Co-ordinate all copyright registrations in China and APAC.
  • Act as subject matter expert on trademark prosecution in China and APAC and participate in activities generally supporting enforcement of The LEGO Group’s rights.
  • Work with other Legal, Compliance & Risk Management (LCR) lawyers to execute on a strategy for enhanced or “stepped up” IPR enforcement in China and APAC, including a trademark prosecution strategy, and work to update that strategy every year.
  • Manage internal and/or external stakeholder relationships to optimize work effectiveness, including building good working relationships with external IP Counsel handling trademark prosecution matters, as well as third-parties who own and operate LEGO stores and the LEGOLAND Parks in China.
  • Demonstrate a high-level of collaboration, knowledge- sharing and process optimization to accomplish tasks.
  • Conduct training classes in various topics, including, but not limited to: proper trademark usage, copyrights, unfair competition, and IP enforcement.
  • Handle IP enforcement cases for the LEGO Education business in China, in conjunction with the LCR lawyer responsible for all LEGO Education legal issues in China.
  • Participate in industry working groups, such as QBPC and INTA, as deemed necessary.
  • Work well with colleagues in Denmark to get support for accomplishing trademark prosecution and
  • copyright registration tasks in China and APAC, and provide valuable feedback to our Danish colleagues and others on what needs to be protected in Asia.
  • Document work on all cases, registrations, legal processes and work output in legal knowledge management tools.
  • Assist in any other IP legal work and/or cases, as determined by Senior IP Counsel, and/or the VP and General Counsel of China and APAC.
  • Play your part in our team succeeding LCR China & APAC is the regional legal team covering all of Asia, with lawyers in Shanghai, Jiaxing, Vietnam and Singapore, in a variety of legal positions. The main focus of LCR China & APAC is:
  • Drive and support all legal tasks in our region, like IPR and corporate matters.
  • Act as main point of contact for relevant legal issues, in accordance with our Mandate and Key Operating Principles.
  • Occasionally participate in tasks and/or provide legal support within other regions.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Law School Degree (such as J.D., LL.M. or equivalent) or equivalent work experience in a law firm
    Minimum of 3-5 years of (postgraduate) legal experience from an in-house role at a global company/MNC or law firm, specializing in Intellectual Property Law in China is preferred
  • Proven track-record in trademark prosecution matters and stakeholder management.
    An appetite for and ability to learn new skills, as well as the willingness to follow-through on tasks.
    Highly collaborative, with a curious mindset and a “can do” approach.
  • A quick learner.
  • A real team player.
  • Proven ability to advise business clients effectively.
  • Experience in meeting and working with government authorities on trademark prosecution work.
  • Ability to make presentations and updates to the internal business clients on IP enforcement and protection efforts.
  • Report regularly to the VP and General Counsel for China & APAC on the status of all prosecution work and other cases

Nice to have:
Experience with IP cases and/or law outside of China.
Some travel will be expected, likely not to exceed 30 days per year
